Parents, teachers, caregivers alike recognize that to keep their children drug free they have to talk to them about drugs. However, that's challenging for most and many admit they don't know what to say. For this reason, the Office of National Drug Control Policy has put together a brochure: Keeping Your Kids Drug Free: A How To Guide For Parents and Other Caregivers. The brochure provides strategies and ideas for staying involved in kids' lives and provides ideas on what to say when talking to children about drugs. The brochures are free and available by contact PREVENT! at 259-7262. For general guidelines on media literacy specific to illicit drugs visit www.theantidrug.com. A set of activities for middle school teachers is also available online at www.TeachersGuide.org. Our Information and Referral Service provides educational, referral and support services and resources to all Brevard residents. PREVENT! receives approximately 3,800 requests for services annually. Contact our Information Referral Specialist to receive additional information on our programs and services, information regarding our many support groups and to get more information on our counseling services at 321-259-7262 or toll free from North Brevard at 321-267-5398.
